Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates knowledge from biology, information engineering, computer sciences, and mathematics to develop methods and tools for exploring and interpreting big biological datasets. Evolutionary histories and dynamics of bacteria and viruses are investigated by using molecular phylogenetic techniques and comparative whole genomic analysis methods. Research on the development of identification and classification schemes for viruses and bacteria in the age of metagenomic era is also being carried out. A number of computer servers are available in the department for bioinformatics research purposes, managed by . Find out more about on our website
