Antimicrobial Resistance and Infectious Diseases (AMRID) Lab, Murdoch University, Perth, Australia:<\/strong><\/h5>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an urgent global problem, causing approximately 700,000 deaths per year. It is estimated that the deaths attributed to the AMR will increase to 10 million in 2050, which will be approximately three times the annual number of deaths caused by COVID-19 at its peak. WHO, in an attempt to cope with the problem, has declared a list of priority drug-resistant pathogens that require global efforts to control.<\/p>

There have been an increasing number of researchers working on AMR, particularly in Southeast Asia and Australia. Unfortunately, there are few opportunities for them to exchange and share their knowledge and information. CENMIG is among several institutes in Thailand that approach the AMR problem using genomic sequencing as a primary tool. In order to strengthen the collaborative effort to control AMR, CENMIG is organizing a two-day seminar titled \u201cAntimicrobial Resistance and Genomics” in a hotel around the Phayathai area. The seminar will gather leading scientists in Thailand and some from nearby countries, such as Australia and Malaysia, who will share their information, knowledge, and expertise in various aspects of AMR, along with the genomics of other important pathogens. The seminar is expected to be attended by 100\u2013200 scientists and lead to more collaborative activities for preparedness against the inevitable impact of AMR on health, economy, and society.<\/p>
