Master of Science (Microbiology and Immunology)

 

Philosophy

Our program is committed to produce graduates that have the ability to integrate knowledge in the fields of Microbiology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics and apply their knowledge and skills in teaching and/or conducting international standard laboratory experiments independently. Our graduates are expected to be able to work as a team with professionalism, integrity and ethics.

 

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO 1: Work conscientiously with professional integrity and ethical standards.

PEO 2: Possess conceptual knowledge of Microbiology, Immunology and other related subjects.

PEO 3: Solve research problems using analytical skills and appropriate techniques in the fields of Microbiology and Immunology.

PEO 4: Conduct independent scientific research and work as part of a team.

PEO 5: Analyze and process scientific data using appropriate statistical tools, and effectively convey the data using information and communication technologies.

Admission Requirement

Hold a B.Sc. or equivalent in one of the following areas or related fields: Microbiology, Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Medical Technology, Public Health, Food Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacology, and Biosciences, with a GPA of ≥ 2.5 from institutions recognized by Office of the Higher Education Commission

If English is not your first language, you are required to provide an official language certification taken within the last 2 years to demonstrate your proficiency in English at the level set by the Faculty of Graduate studies, Mahidol University.

  • IELTS (score of at least 3)
  • TOEFL-IBT (score of at least 32)
  • TOEFL-IPT (score of at least 400, by Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University)
  • MU GRAD TEST (score of at least 36)

 

Applicants whose credentials differ from the above requirements may apply to the program upon the permission of the Administrative Program Committee in concurrence with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate studies.

 

Selection Method:

Applicants are selected based on academic and research credentials and are interviewed by the faculty members of the department. International students will be interviewed online by appointed faculty members of the department and must provide a proof of financial support during the study period. Final judgement will be made under the consideration of the Administrative Program Committee in concurrence with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate studies.

Credit Assignment

The number of credits (lecture–lab–self study) assigned to each learning activity is as follows:

  • One credit of lecture or discussion is equal to 15 hours per semester
  • One credit of laboratory or practice is equal to 30 hours per semester
  • One credit of thesis is equal to 45 hours per semester

 

 

Language

English is used in teaching, learning as well as in the assessment processes.

 

Registration

Students must register as full-time students.

In each semester of their academic year, students must register for no less than credits assigned in the study plan and no more than 15 credits per semester. The exemption can be made by the Program Director.

Graduation Requirements

All students must:

  • register for no less than 24 credits of coursework and 12 credits of thesis. Total credits acquired must be no less than 36 credits. A cumulative GPA must be 3.00 or more.
  • meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.
  • pass the professional and personal skills development according to the rules and regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.
  • present their thesis and pass the oral thesis examination according to the regulations of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.
  • obtain at least one publication or a manuscript that has been accepted for publication as a journal article or a conference proceeding at the national or international level according to rules and regulations of Faculty of Graduate Studies, Mahidol University.
