Philosophy

Our program is committed to produce graduates that have the ability to integrate knowledge in the fields of Microbiology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics and apply their knowledge and skills to create new scientific ideas and/or innovations. Our graduates are expected to be excellence in research, display leadership and work with professionalism, integrity and ethics.

 

Program educational objectives (PEOs)

PLO1: Demonstrate professional integrity, ethical conduct, and the ability to logically deliberate controversial ethical issues. 

PLO2: Demonstrate applicable knowledge from core subjects in Microbiology and Immunology.

PLO3: Take the initiative in designing, conducting, and supervising scientific experiments using analytical problem-solving skills as well as critical and creative thinking skills.

PLO4: Formulate hypotheses and design relevant experiments based on information from the scientific literature.

PLO5: Identify and critically appraise new information that is relevant to a Microbiology- or Immunology- related question.

PLO6: Demonstrate a committed and respectful attitude towards learning, working with others, and attaining personal development.

PLO7: Critically process data using suitable analytical or statistical tools.

PLO8: Demonstrate informational and communicational literacy by showing the ability to effectively peruse diverse sources of information and databases.

PLO9: Efficiently communicate scientific ideas in both written and oral formats.

Admission and graduation requirements

* Applicants with qualifications that deviate from those specified may be considered for admission at the discretion of the Program Director, the Program Executive Committee, and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Selection method

Applicants are selected based on academic and research credentials and are interviewed by the faculty members of the department. International students will be interviewed online by appointed faculty members of the department and must provide a proof of financial support during the study period. Final judgement will be made under the consideration of the Administrative Program Committee in concurrence with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate studies.

Credit assignment

The number of credits (lect–lab–self) assigned to each learning activity is as follows:

  • One credit of lect (lecture) or discussion is equal to 15 hours per semester
  • One credit of lab (laboratory) is equal to 30 hours per semester
  • One credit of self (self-study) is equal to 30 hours per semester

 

Language

English is used in teaching, learning as well as in the assessment processes.

 

Registration

Students must register as full-time students.

In each semester of their academic year, students must register for no fewer than the credits assigned in the study plan and no more than 15 credits per semester. Exemption can be made by the Program Director.
