Entry-Level Genomics Workshop

CENMIG held an Entry-Level Genomic Workshop between the 7th and the 9th December 2022. The program was tailored for researchers who wished to gain an introduction to the field of microbial genomics, but did not have much experience or knew where to begin. We had more than 30 scientists and graduate students from various research institutes and universities participating our workshop.

The workshop offered hands-on practical trainings on how to use command-line programs, how to clean 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing data, as well as how to identify bacterial sequence types and identify potential drug resistance genes within their genomes. In order to provide a well-rounded learning experience, each practical session was paired with a lecture on relevant subjects given by experts in the field. This included lectures on overview of genomics analysis, applications of genomic analysis in infectious disease control and surveillance, as well as talks on how to prepare your samples well for sequencing from a sequencing company.

The workshop was very well-received, described as “a good hands-on experience”, “very Informative ” and “easy to understand” by our participants!

Here are some of the comments from our participants.
