CENMIG × ISI Foundation: Data Analysis to Tackle Future Epidemics

Between June 30 and July 4, 2025, CENMIG and partner networks, in collaboration with the Institute for Scientific Interchange (ISI Foundation), Italy, organized a hands-on workshop titled “Modelling Infectious Disease Outbreaks Using Genomic Data” at the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. This training aimed to boost Thailand’s capacity to respond to future epidemics. The event was supported by the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI) under the Genomics Thailand initiative.

The workshop was honored to host a team of world-leading researchers from ISI Foundation, including Dr. Ciro Cattuto (Scientific Director), Dr. Daniela Paolotti (Senior Research Scientist), Dr. Nicolò Gozzi (Senior Research Scientist), and Dr. Mattia Mazzoli (Postdoctoral Researcher). They gave lectures and shared expertise on infectious disease modeling with over 100 participants from across Thailand and neighboring countries on the first day.
Over the following two days, the team provided hands-on training for more than 30 attendees, focusing on the application of informatic tools for accurate outbreak modeling. Additionally, an advanced-level workshop was held for over 10 participants from leading universities in Thailand, emphasizing knowledge exchange, research consultation, and discussions on potential collaboration.

This workshop marked the beginning of a collaborative network between Thai and Italian scientists and epidemiologists, strengthening the nation’s capacity to respond to future epidemic crises.
